The 2020GreenEnergy Plan
Why CEInet?
The California Energy Internet (CEInet) will be California’s 21st-Century energy grid. There will be nothing else like it anywhere!
But why do we need CEInet ?
CEInet will
Many Californians won’t be able to meet all their energy needs from their own rooftops. For them, energy won’t be free, but we still want it to be cheap.
Every Californian will be able to get all the energy they need from CEInet, at a rate far lower than anything available today.
CEInet will be far more extensive than today’s grid, and will be able to deliver energy from anywhere to anywhere in California with ease. Moreover, it will include energy storage units located at major generating sites and in all local communities in California.
Energy storage units will enable generating sites to continue delivering energy through the night and when there’s not enough sunlight or wind, and they’ll eventually provide local communities with a reserve of up to seven days of normal energy usage.
CEInet’s energy storage units, besides providing redundant energy availability throught the state, will also isolate transmission line failures.
If a transmission line goes down, energy storage units located downstream will continue providing energy until the line is restored or an alternate route is established. The recipients of the energy will not see the failure at all. Energy storage units upstream from the failed line will either absorb the energy that was to be sent through the failed line or send it via another route, and upstream components of CEInet will not see the failure either.
In most cases, the downstream storage units will be replenished from other transmission links without having to wait until the failed line is restored.
So the failure of a transmission line will not affect its neighbors, and any potential cascade will be stopped. Even the simultaneous failure of several transmission lines will not generally disrupt end users.
Anyone in California with excess solar, wind, or other Certified CleanGreenEnergy, will, in accordance with CEA guidlines, be able to sell that energy through CEInet anywhere in California, and after Califoria’s needs are met, anywhere in the nation.
The California Energy Clearing House (CECH), operated by the California Energy Commission (CEC), will simplify the sale and purchase of energy, and will handle the lion’s share of energy sales. Energy can also be sold by contract between a seller and a buyer, with a fee to be paid for transmission via CEInet.
Although there will be tough restrictions on selling energy out-of-state when it is needed in-state, these restrictions will be rarely needed after 2020-Gre is fully up and running, due to the California’s sheer abundance of solar and wind energy.
